Several recent reports suggest that Toyota plans to resurrect the Urban Cruiser for the 2017 model year. As you probably know, this mini MPV was discontinued in 2014 due to poor sales. According to some sources, the Japanese company is working on an all-new Urban Cruiser that should have very little in common with its predecessor. The other possibility is that the 2017 Toyota Urban Cruiser will be a restyled version of the model that got axed in 2014. In any case, we expect Toyota’s small MPV to introduce a bevy of new features and up-to-date technology.
2017 Toyota Urban Cruiser Design and Features
Design-wise, the 2017 Toyota Urban Cruiser is likely to retain its SUV-like styling but also to adopt the brand’s latest design philosophy. It’s expected to grow in size slightly and offer a significantly improved cargo capacity which was one of the biggest drawbacks of its predecessor. Now,the interior is due to receive a major overhaul that should result in a much more enticing cabin design. Expect the new Urban Cruiser to adopt a redesigned dashboard and center stack incorporating a large touch-screen display. Also, we expect to see more high-quality materials and useful storage space in the upcoming model. When it comes to technology, Toyota will give this model such features as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, start/stop system, park assist with a rearview camera, etc.
2017 Toyota Urban Cruiser Engine Specs
As for the engine options, we expect the 2017 Toyota Urban Cruiser to use the same engines offered with the previous model. The petrol-powered unit will once again come in the form of the 1.3-liter four-cylinder that makes 100 horsepower and 132 Nm (97 lb-ft) of torque. Those who prefer more frugal engines should opt for the 1.4-liter turbo-diesel inline-four that churns out 90 hp and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of twist. Unlike the previous generation that was offered with a sole six-speed manual transmission, the all-new Urban Cruiser is likely to receive an automatic gearbox as well. There will be both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants to choose between.
2017 Urban Cruiser Release Date
Although we’re still in the dark as far as the official release is concerned, the 2017 Toyota Urban Cruiser is most likely to arrive in late 2016 or early 2017.
