I like the app and the website, but I think you should include games and an option to not see the translations

Four out of five for now. I have learned as much it can teach me and that’s good. You don’t pay anything to learned Japanese. If you what to learned more do the free trial or pay for the monthly trial. I didn’t do either of these things. If you what to go ahead and do it’s your choice.
  • すごい!!! I’m ACTUALLY learning!

The recent updates (7/17/18) are bomb btw- it makes the app that much more sophisticated and easy to use It’s not free, but at $9 a month its worth it. With casual play I can truly say that I’ve actually been learning a decent amount of Japanese Even when I’m not using the app- I naturally try and read new characters and sentence structures because the hard part of starting the basics is over. ————— Original: Wow- I’m just so amazed- after about a month of messing around with this app I went premium and only do about 15-20min 3x a week (rarely more and sometimes even less). Its been about 4 months and I don’t know a lot but I continuously surprise myself when I end up whipping out a sentence or actually end up reading a sentence/word in a raw manga or off a package at a grocery store without actively thinking about the characters! I’m not one to be easily excited but when you hear yourself speak another language and you’re not even thinking about it- it’s honestly exciting and surprising. The mind is a wonderful work of the conscious and subconscious and this app helps to really get your working memory going. Japanese is not a natural language for most people and it doesn’t have much relation to English like Spanish does (not Castilian). There’s 3 sets of characters- all of which are written differently but have plenty of similarities in sound despite being different in meaning- and despite this added complexity I’m still learning. It’s been a dream of mine since childhood to learn Japanese- no matter how quickly or fluently it comes- I just want to learn, and I finally am! I love that self-development apps like this are becoming readily available to so many people for an affordable price. After all, so many of us are tied into so many different obligations and tasks that we hardly take time for ourselves. A few minutes each day for ourselves is almost a pittance, but we have to make an effort to help ourselves- and this app helps you do that. It requires a little bit of responsibility on your part to try and learn, but this app is fairly thorough in it’s deliverance. It’s a great addition to your daily life if you’re looking to slowly begin exploring a new language. It’s not as grammar intensive like taking classes would be, or as intense as being dunked cold into the language by living in a different country and forcing yourself to learn- it’s a slow, fluid process that comes playfully and easily. The types of tools they provide you is great and very helpful. Don’t expect to be dishing out a new language in a few months - if you’re a busy bee but play this app often enough and make it a point to use your skills whenever you can in real life, you’ll probably pick up a decent amount of conversational skills within 6-12 months depending on the complexity of the language. I’m looking forward to learning more. Japan wasn’t built in a day and I’m not rushing anything- I’m simply enjoying the process.

Great for beginners or intermediate language learners, with many languages to choose from. If one wants to just learn how to get by in a casual conversation, or maybe reach fluency in a language, Memrise is definitely a great foundation to start with!
  • Good language learning on the go

This app is convenient for those that are busy because you learn 7 words at a time but most importantly the words are reinforced through real people speaking in different dialects.
