  • Lessons won’t load

    By TonaldDrump2016
Ever since very recently (I presume since the latest update), my lessons will not load, and leaves me seeing a loading screen for incredibly extended periods of time. I was very invested in studying intensely everyday, but this glitch has made me lose my daily streak and can un-motivate somebody because of the sheer difficulty of accessing lessons. Please fix.
  • New currency system is rigged

    By JSBisViewtiful
The dev team recently switched how currency earning is implemented. It used to be that once a lesson was completed, you could select a treasure chest for your reward. You could then watch an ad to open a second chest. The chest amounts were usually above 10, often being 15~. Sometimes the chests were 3, 5 and a whopping 80. On average, I earned 29-35 points a day. Now there is a roulette wheel that determines your reward. The wheel includes 5, 10, 20, and 3 much higher numbers. Surprise: from my experience the wheel has only landed on 20 twice and every other time it’s landed on 5 and 10. The wheel has been set up to select the lower numbers more often, forcing users to watch ads just to match what they could earn with ONE chest on the old system. Even with the 2x multiplier from watching an ad, earning points is significantly worse than the previous system. I’ve gone from 29-35 points a day average down to 10-20. I only took the time to write this review because of how obvious it is and how disappointed I am that Duolingo is doing everything it can to force yet another subscription on their users.
  • Remembering

I love this app, but I think there should be more quiz and saying the words. But other then that it is a great app
  • It’s great but only one thing....

    By C6379
I just got this like last week because of a friend and I have been wanting to learn a certain language for a while now... it’s been great doing the lessons and I’ll keep doing them.. but I don’t like how there is health that goes down when you get things wrong. I’d rather have to restart the thing I messed up on the lesson then have health. It’s just annoying when I see my health is going down when I’m getting things wrong and I have to either pay my diamond things or pay real money for health to restart the lesson. So could there not be health? I’m not quite sure why there even is health. It’s a great app over all. But the health thing is just annoying as heck.
  • Penalized for making learning mistakes

    By grro3753
I used to use the Duolingo app as an excellent resource for learning new languages. I speak three languages and have always found the app to really reinforce any new language I was trying to pick up - that is, until the new update. The update has turned Duolingo into much more of a game where you are penalized for making any sort of mistakes (a vital part of the learning process) by losing health. Once your health is gone, you can’t continue on any further lessons unless you spend 20 extra minutes recovering or paying for it. This is obviously a way to up the profitability of the app, but takes away the ability to make ANY mistakes while learning a new language. Furthermore, only on the desktop version are explanations available for ANYTHING. As adults (I’m assuming the majority of people using this app are older than 16) we are unable to pick up languages the same way children are able to, i.e. listen and repeat words and phrases and absorb the language structure along the way. Any person with a little bit of knowledge on language acquisition or pedagogy knows this. After puberty you simply cannot pickup a language this way with absolutely no explanation. Go check out other (free) apps that offer very similar content but better quality. I’m hoping there will be enough of a revolt that Duolingo will revert back, as it really was a good app. Honestly just burn it down and start over again. Down with the system!!
  • Some questions to the developers of Duolingo

    By Omegod!
I am studying Indonesian, and have mostly found your app helpful. But I started off writing this review by wanting to ask why you make me answer the same questions and repeat the same Indonesian sentences over and over again. I must have written “ Andi goes to the market” And “Andi pergi ke pasar” a hundred times. Ditto “Rumah saya tidak besar.” And repeating sentences like “Gedung itu ada di sana” “Why? I know these sentences by heart after 2 or 3 times, so why the need for this repetition and more repetition? Another thing that I am disconcerted by - often, when I write a correct answer in English, I am told by Duolingo that it’s wrong - for examle when I write “complex” Duolingo says it’s wrong and I should say “complicated “ instead. But “complex” also means”coplicated”! And the same goes for “more smart” which Duolingo says should be “smarter”. Surely the two are the same?? I’ve got an annual subscription to learn Indonesian on Duolingo Plus, but I don’t see any improvement over the free app. Perhaps I will later on, but it hasn't happened thus far. Another thing I need to ask you - how do I get to use Duolingo Plus on my laptop? Many reviewers have said that it’s better than using the app on an ipad - which is what I’m doing. I so much want a better way to learn Indonesian, because after about 2+ weeks I haven't learnt much at all — probably because of having to repeat what I’ve already learned so often, and thus not having been taught anything new for ages. The other thing I want to know is: Health - what is Health and what is The Regeneration Rate - terms I’ve seen mentioned in some reviews. Perhaps they aren’t used in Indonesian lessons? I hope I get some answers from you? Thank you in advence.

Enjoying the app except that the words are hard to see. The featured word is in yellow which is nearly impossible to read. Please darken the print.

BRING BACK THE TREASURE CHESTS!!!!!!!! Seriously, the spring wheel is not fun, who came up with that awful idea. Bring back the treasure chests, at least they were fun! Or at the very least give people the option of the wheel of bore, or the treasure chests. Duolingo: you are truly the WORST language app!!!!!!!! You used to be a fairly decent app, but that is no longer the case. You have become worse and worse over the past year to a year and a half and get worse all the time. It is evident that you do not care about your customers whatsoever. I think it’s time to find a new app for language learning. Duolingo you are AWFUL! It’s time you sit down and actually make changes for the better, especially if you want to help people actually LEARN a language! BRING BACK THE TREASURE CHESTS! I REPEAT BRING BACK THE TREASURE CHESTS!
